Birthday Celebrations

For Joel's birthday I made one of his favorite dinners, complete with homemade raspberry lemonade and birthday cake. Camden helped me bake and frost the cake. He picked out the edible image (Go Tigers!!) and insisted that we buy the licensed version and not a cheap remake.

Camden's birthday is this Sunday, but we had a little party at the park this afternoon. He really labored over what kind of party to have and changed his mind many times. In the end, we planned a soccer birthday. I made him a soccer field cake and we also made soccer jello jigglers. He had a blast with his friends! I'll post a slide show of his party in the next few days.

Happy Birthday, Babe!

Happy Birthday, Joel! Wow, did you ever think that 30 would come so fast? I really hope this birthday is special. I'm so thankful for you. It's amazing to me that God saw fit to put us together. So, in honor of you, I thought share some thoughts.

You're my best friend..my favorite person on this earth. You know me better than anyone else this side of heaven and still love me! When I look back on my own 30 years, the happiest are the ones I've shared with you.

You're a terrific dad! When you come home, it's a party every time! Our boys are so blessed to have you for their father. I love watching you wrestle with them. Whether it's baking cookies or playing backyard golf, it's plain to see that you love them during the mundane moments of life.

You're a dedicated youth pastor. I know the road is not always easy, in fact, it rarely is. I know that youth pastors do more than plan games and write trivia questions. I love our late night chats about how to help them grow and change and what we can do for them. I love the fact that you love our teens enough to spend your days serving the Lord and serving them.

You're a great coach. While your seasons haven't led to championships (yet!) you remain dedicated to helping your girls develop into great players....even if they do cry sometimes!

I love all the little things too....like how your eyes light up when the Tigers are on free TV or there's an interview with Ernie. I love it when I know you're tired at the end of a day and you let me escape and head to Meijer...alone! I love your passion for ministry and how it affects all that you do.

You are the love of my life. I'm so thrilled to still be growing in love with you! Happy Birthday.

Birthdays are a-comin'!

Well, I am trying to plan Camden's birthday party. We finally found paper products that he likes....now it's just deciding what kind of cake to make. Last week he wanted a soccer cake. Terrific! Now he wants a baseball STADIUM! Um...help!!! We'll see what we really end up making.

At any rate, we've decided to have his party at the park. That way, the kids will have plenty to do and all of the trash can get thrown out there! We're having birthday cake and freeze pops. Stay tuned for photos to come!

It's not that difficult, Jen.

I'm making rice with dinner tonight, Jen. Just thought you'd like to know.

My new toy...

Joel's parents gave us money for our birthdays....for a dishwasher! We purchased the model pictured above. I know, the photo doesn't say much. However, I can tell you that it is an ultra-quiet model that has some cool features. Hooray! Joel will pick it up Monday to begin the installation process.

Happy 4th!...a day late.

Okay, so I'm a day late in posting...but here are some 4th photos anyway. We took the kids to the Hadley parade and then to Mimi and Bapa's for lunch. Later we went to the church picnic at Faith Baptist in Davison. Camden and Josiah especially liked collecting candy at the parade. Yes, those are Mardis Gras beads that Josiah is wearing....one float threw those instead of candy (yikes!!). He gave them to me later and I wrapped them on my wrist like a bracelet.

Congrats Jimmy and Angel!

My brother and his wife (Jim and Angel) are the proud parents of Jasmine Marie Shaffer. She was born last Thursday while we were at camp. I went down to Cleveland on Monday night to check out this beautiful girl!

Now....how can we make her a Michigan fan???
