A new adventure

It seems in my family that my siblings are a little more "business-minded" than I am. Does anyone out there remember Bob's businesses? He sold pop by the side of the road and at church softball games, he walked dogs, charged his siblings interest, and even sold freeze pops in the dorm at college!

Well that's all about to change! I am starting my own Partylite business! Next Thursday is my "starter show" and after that, I'll be doing shows on my own. I'm very excited and I'm looking forward to reaching some key goals:

1. Being completely debt free (except our house, but really want to work to pay it of EARLY!)
2. Starting a car fund (the Hyundai is almost 9 years old and the van is almost 11!) to replace a vehicle in the future.
3. Setting money aside for my kids education (Christian school and College is NOT cheap!)
4. Going on a 2nd honeymoon for our 10th anniversary (in 2 years).

So there you have it. I'm venturing out in to unchartered waters for me, so PLEASE pray that I will do well and that God would bless my efforts.

By the way...even once we are 100% debt free (including our house)...I'll still be a CVS junkie!

Dawn's list

My sister posted (ages ago) some of her favorites. I thought I'd do the same. I did this in Sunday School a few years ago (with giveaways and all!). No luck today...you just get to read it.

Raindrops on Roses and Whiskers on kittens (umm, no).....These are a few of MY favorite things:

1. Starbucks White Mocha...love in a cup!
2. Pampers....these really work the best for my kids.
3. Company Soap lip balm...perfect! Non-drying, smooth-as-butter and all-natural.
4. The Jesus Storybook Bible...my kids recieved this as a gift this Christmas, and we LOVE it!
5. My ESV...my favorite Bible! I like the translation (for several reasons) and I love the tapestry cover!
6. Crest Pro-health toothpaste....Joel can't handle the gritty texture! I love the clean sensation it leaves...like I just left Dr. Graham's office.
7. Mineral Makeup...feels like I'm not wearing makeup at all!
8. Cherry Koolaid....it's Kay Messer's fault, I promise!
9. Dr. Pepper....like mother, like daughter!
10. Like Jen, I value Brother-Sister Confidentiality
11. Weddings...I love them. I could make a hobby out of being a wedding Crasher, but I won't.
12. Clean, new white socks. No joke.
13. Sharpie Markers

Boy, that's a lot! What are some of your favorites?

Homemade Laundry Detergent

So, I've been looking for ways to be frugal and make every dollar stretch. I had read online about making my own laundry detergent and finally gave it a try. Here's the "recipe":

1 Bar of Fels Naptha soap, grated
1 Cup Borax
1 Cup Washing Soda

Mix and keep in an airtight container. Add 1 Tablespoon (a formula scoop works great!) to each regular load of laundry. Use 2 Tbs. for tougher loads. So far it seems to be working great...and I can be kind of a "laundry soap" snob.

I've been using Borax and Washing soda for lots of things around here...with much success! So, how do you pinch pennies?

My new hobby

I'm hooked. Addicted. Past the point of no return. I am and will forever be....a CVS Extracare junkie. I'm not kidding, folks! I've converted my sister and am working on my mom. I will never (EVER AGAIN) pay for shampoo, toothpaste, deoderant, makeup, and other various and sundrie things.

CVS gives you Extrabucks when you buy certain items. I then take those extrabucks (ECBs) and "roll" them (use them to buy more items that produce ECBs) and repeat. It is fun. It's exciting. Here's what I got this week:

5 Bottles of Softsoap Spa Bodywash
2 Packages Pampers Baby Dry diapers
8 sticks of Lady Speed Stick 24/7
20 bars of soap (12 Dove, 8 Lever 2000)
2 Johnson's buddies soap bars
1 24.7 Volumizing Lip Gloss
2 Bottles of Windex
1 Package of Windex Wipes (GREAT for the van.)
1 Can of Scrubbing Bubbles Bath cleaner
1 package of eyeshadow applicators
1 package of foundation applicators
1 package of facial cleansing sponges

I spent a total $7.38!! and that's only because I bought the Pampers :) AND--I have over $20 ECBs to spend later. I do this almost every week (of course, the products vary and I almost NEVER spend more than $1.00 out of pocket.) CVS allows you to combine their coupons, manufacturer's coupons and ECB's to pay for items.

Now, before you tell me that I am a pack-rat or that I am greedy, read this: I do have a plan for all of this stuff. It will be making it's way into care packages for college kids, pampering baskets for new moms, etc. Of course, when we need toothpaste I will run to my stash first. But it's not all just being stockpiled for no reason.

This is just one way I am saving money and making our budget work.

Lazy Blogger

Okay, okay..I know I've been a lazy blogger. I've never been REALLY good at keeping up on things, but lately I have had a running list of things to blog about and then I don't do it! Go figure. Anyways, here's to getting better at the blogger thing.

If you're up for a good laugh, head on over to Jen's blog and read her latest post. I think she should be a comedic writer or at least moonlight as a stand-up comic. She has one great routine already down. Just ask her about the Manchester Airport incident that happened years ago. You'll be crying, I promise.

Today is the first day that Camden is playing outside in the fresh spring air. It's finally dry enough that he's not coated in mud when he comes in (just sidewalk chalkdust.) He found the carrot from our long-melted snowman (gross!!) and I commented on the fact that no bunny had eaten it yet. Here's a snapshot of our conversation:

C: Well, the bunnies are too cold to stop and eat the carrot.
Me: Oh really?
C: Yes, the daddy bunnies are the only ones that aren't cold. They are the only ones that go out right now because they are the only ones that have coats and shoes.

His imagination is amazing. Now if only we could imagine that disgusting carrot away. I had no idea it was out there...who knows where he found it??

New Lungs for Tricia

Tricia is in the OR right now! Please remember to PRAY for her (and her donor's family) during this night and in the next few days!!
